This is a historically significant antique 19th-century hand-carved Meerschaum tobacco smoking pipe complete with its original fitted presentation case.
The pipe bowl features a detailed high-relief carving depicting a traditional hunter resting with his rifle alongside his faithful hunting hound dog beneath a prominent tree. The original leather-bound hard case is custom-fitted to the pipe. The top lid features a crisp gold-leaf/gilt presentation inscription reading: "SOUVENIR FÜR J. POPPER 1871."

This antique item has significant condition flaws and is being sold strictly AS-IS for parts, restoration, or historic display.
1. PIPE BODY: The dark red stem/mouthpiece is snapped off completely flat and is incomplete (missing the functional tip section). There is a prominent chip/break on the meerschaum carving itself directly behind the hunter's right shoulder, exposing the lighter chalky interior material beneath the aged patina.
2. PRESENTATION CASE: The original 1871 dated case shows heavy interior silk staining, fabric wear, and exterior scuffing. Additionally, the interior fabric lining is torn away at the narrow tip of the case lid, exposing the raw structural wood/cardboard backing underneath. The metal clasp remains functional.
