Antique 1880s Alta CA Photo California Lumberjacks Logging Wagon Train Named
Up for sale is a spectacular, authentic 1880s historical photograph documenting early California timber industry history. This image captures a massive Sierra Nevada logging operation in Alta, California. It features multiple teams of draft horses hitched to heavy wooden logging wagons loaded down with massive pine tree sections. Several lumberjacks and crew members are positioned throughout the train, and an alert dark dog stands in the immediate foreground field.
Mount Details:
The photograph comes securely mounted to its original period 9" x 11" cardstock mount, featuring elegant, classic beveled edges characteristic of premium late 19th-century photography formatting.
Reverse Inscription:
The back of the mount features a clear, authentic period pencil inscription naming the teamster / foreman of the crew: "Henry First". This provides an excellent provenance anchor for research into Placer County pioneer families and specific regional timber contracts of the late 1800s.
Condition:
Good antique condition given its age of well over 137+ years. The image retains sharp details, clear contrast. The mount shows honest edge wear, minor toning, and light scuffing typical for an authentic piece of handling pioneer history. Please review the high-resolution images carefully to evaluate the condition details.
