Antique 1890s Cabinet Card 2 Women Victorian Dresses Brandt Bros Avoca Iowa Description
Beautiful original Victorian-era cabinet card photograph featuring two young women posed together in an elaborate photography studio setting.
Both women are dressed in wonderful late-19th-century fashions, including high-necked dresses, fitted bodices, long skirts and fashionable puffed sleeves. The woman on the left wears particularly pronounced full sleeves, while the woman on the right rests her arm against an ornate studio chair.
The portrait includes an exceptionally decorative studio setting with an ornate painted backdrop, draped curtains, floral scenery, decorative furniture, a small pedestal table and fur-like floor covering. The wealth of period detail makes this a particularly attractive example of late Victorian studio photography.
Based on the women's clothing and hairstyles, I would date the photograph to approximately the mid-to-late 1890s, circa 1895–1898.
The photographer's imprint at the bottom reads:
Brandt Bros.
Avoca, Iowa
The identities of the two women are unknown.

A wonderful piece of 1890s Iowa photographic history, particularly appealing to collectors of Victorian fashion, women's history, Iowa memorabilia, cabinet cards and identified regional photographers.
Condition
Good antique condition overall with age-related wear. The image has scattered small surface marks/scratches and spotting, including some more noticeable light-colored marks across the dress of the woman on the right. The mount shows minor edge and corner wear. The reverse has remnants/residue from an old label or piece of tape near the upper left corner, along with light age toning and minor marks. Please see all photographs for the best assessment of condition.
