BUCK’S STATEMENT:
Step back to a crisp autumn afternoon in the 1890s. The apple harvest is winding down, baskets are filling beneath the orchard trees, and children gather near a fallen log, proudly showing off the fruits of the season. Before radio jingles and television commercials, beautifully illustrated trade cards like this were how companies captured the attention of American families. This charming Herald Ranges advertising piece features a wonderful Victorian-era chromolithograph scene filled with warm colors, period clothing, and the timeless innocence that made these advertisements so memorable.
Pieces like this were often displayed in parlors, tucked into scrapbooks, or saved as keepsakes long after the original product had been forgotten. More than a century later, this little survivor remains a wonderful glimpse into the golden age of American advertising. The artwork is rich with detail, from the children’s clothing to the apple baskets and orchard setting, making it equally appealing to collectors of Victorian ephemera, advertising, country store memorabilia, and early Americana. A scarce and decorative piece that displays beautifully despite its age.
