Unusual early 20th-century patented cast-iron hand file/sharpening tool marked “PAT MAR 10 1914.”
The compact tool consists of an openwork cast-iron frame surrounding an exposed flat steel file, with central metal retaining and adjustment hardware. The opposite face is additionally marked with the letters “C” and “M.”
An identical surviving example has been documented as an antique cast-iron file tool. The precise specialized application of this design has not been positively established, so it is being described conservatively as a hand file/sharpening tool rather than attributed to a particular trade or use such as knife, razor, or saw sharpening.
Antique used condition with oxidation, surface rust, scratches, finish loss and general age-related wear. File teeth remain visible, and the retaining hardware is present. Please review all photographs closely for construction, patent marking and condition.
