Beautiful antique presentation or scarf box dating to approximately the 1920s, featuring a glamorous hand-tinted photographic portrait of a young woman in a striped cloche-style hat.
The portrait has wonderful period character, with selectively applied color to the woman's cheeks, lips, hat and clothing. Her bobbed hairstyle and fashionable hat give the piece a classic Jazz Age / Art Deco look.
The photograph is incorporated into the hinged lid and surrounded by a textured floral-patterned border with metallic-look trim and decorative photo corners. The box opens to a large shallow interior that would originally have been suitable for a scarf, lingerie or similar textile accessory.
