This unique pewter capstan styleinkwell features the highly collectible official government property markstamped on the upper rim. Established in 1786, the stationery office suppliedofficial writing materials and office goods to British government sector courthouses,military branches, and historic post offices.
This specific utility piece was designed to be heavy andbrought at the base to prevent tipping on busy desks. The top rim features 5integrated pen holder holes intended to store quill or dip pens upright duringthe workday.
Condition: The inkwell has an excellent authentic agedpatina. It is being sold in its standard historical utility state, missing itsoriginal flip top lid and internal ceramic / glass ink pot liner. Structurallysound and sits completely flat. There is a very minor, slight dent on one sideof the base consistent with decades of actual office use, which only adds toits historical character. No major gashes, holes or repairs. Please review allphotos carefully , as they form part of the condition description.
