Antique 19thC Victorian Papier-Mâché Serving Large Tray After George Morland For Sale

A beautiful and highly collectible 19th-century Victorian papier-mâché serving tray. This large, oval antique tray features a classic black-ground lacquered finish adorned with an elegant, intricate gilt vine and stenciled leaf border around the rim.The center showcases a hand-painted romanticized genre scene after the celebrated English artist George Morland, depicting an intimate period interior with figures. The tray is designed with traditional raised edges and integrated handles on each side. It features a maker's mark on the reverse (BP mark). A stunning statement piece for display, a collector's cabinet, or a historical home.

Condition:

Antique 19th-century condition. The front display side is in beautiful condition with rich colors and gorgeous gilded vine stenciling, showing light age-appropriate surface crazing. The reverse side shows heavy historic wear, scuffing, and noticeable lacquer flaking/loss that exposes the underlying material. There is old stabilizing masking tape near the script text. The "B.P." maker's mark and red "After Morland" inscription remain fully legible. No structural warping, holes, or cracks to the main body.
