CARPENTER Pawtucket RI Tap & Die Set No. 3 w/ Original Box.............the case is in poor condition but is original and the set itself is in very good condition and i haven't even cleaned them upThe set is an Antique J.M. Carpenter Tap & Die Company set from Pawtucket, RI, USA (marked on the handle as J.M. CARPENTER TAP & DIE CO., PAWTUCKET R.I. U.S.A., with PAT. AUG. 25 1891 and No. 3). This is a collectible antique machinist/toolmaker set from a historic company founded around 1870 and incorporated in 1891, known for quality threading tools.This is a near-complete antique J.M. Carpenter tap and die set in its ORIGINAL wooden storage box. Includes the large adjustable tap wrench (ratchet-style handle marked PAT. AUG. 25 1891 No. 3), multiple die stocks/handles (including one marked No. 3), and a good selection of taps and dies (visible sizes include 20, 12, 16, 24, etc., with four-flute designs and markings like H.P. or similar). The tools show original patina, light surface rust consistent with age, but appear in VERY GOOD overall condition for their age — threads look sharp, no major damage or breakage noted on the metal components, and they haven't been cleaned/polished yet (cleaning could reveal even better condition).The ORIGINAL WOODEN BOX is in POOR condition as expected for a 130+ year old item — significant wear, cracks, splits, missing pieces in the fitted interior, wood damage around edges/slots, some worm holes or rot spots, and tape reinforcements on the exterior. It is still the authentic fitted case with original compartments that hold everything securely.This is a rare collectible for machinists, antique tool enthusiasts, or those interested in early American industrial history (Pawtucket RI was a key manufacturing hub).
