This jar is distinctly green, not ordinary aqua with color pooled only in the base. The green tone runs through the shoulder, sidewalls, heel and base; in neutral indoor light it reads as a clear emerald or forest green, and strong light reveals real depth and natural color variation. The front is boldly embossed with Ball\'s early 3-L Loop (Triple-L) script with the dropped A, above block-letter MASON. Embossing, quart capacity, closure and color are consistent with the Red Book No. 234 Ball Triple-L MASON family in the forest or pure-green color category. The color is natural to the glass and has not been stained, coated, irradiated or altered.
The glass has outstanding early character: a prominent, nearly circular trapped air bubble above the Ball script, numerous seed bubbles through the body and base, strong waviness, uneven thickness, natural mold irregularities and deeper green concentration at the heel. These were formed while the glass was molten and are original manufacturing features, not cracks or damage. The jar is noticeably heavier than an ordinary quart Ball jar. The base carries a molded number 1 inside the circular base plate, a mold or cavity identifier, not a separate error variety.
The zinc screw lid shows darkened patina, oxidation, surface wear and discoloration consistent with age and has not been polished. Because antique jar lids were commonly swapped over generations, it is described as a period-compatible zinc lid rather than guaranteed original to this jar.
