~ History & Provenance:The Boston and Lockport Block Company was officially incorporated in 1887, combining the manufacturing forces of the Bagnall and Loud Block Company of Boston and the Penfield Block Company of Lockport, New York. By 1889, the company consolidated its corporate offices and primary warehouses on Commercial and Fulton Streets in the historic maritime district of Boston, Massachusetts.

The company operated its primary manufacturing foundry and factory at 210 Market Street in Lockport, New York, a strategic location utilizing the heavy manufacturing infrastructure of the region from the mid-1800s until the early 1900s. To identify their premium grade marine and industrial rigging hardware, Boston and Lockport used a five-pointed star as their registered trademark brand mark.

~ Care & Maintenance: The cast iron surface is smooth and clean to the touch, providing a hard-as-nails cured patina without the use of modern painted coatings, while the hardwood shell has been deeply conditioned and sealed. Due to our extensive cleaning, oiling, and preservation processes, the entire completed assembly is highly moisture and water-resistant. To maintain this premium finish, dust occasionally with a dry microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush. If the piece ever needs to be cleaned, gently wipe it down using a damp cloth with a mild dish detergent and dry it immediately. Never expose the completed assembly to standing water or harsh abrasive cleaners. Periodically wiping a micro-layer of fine linseed oil onto the hardwood shell, housing, and swivel hook will permanently lock in that hard-as-nails primitive shine!
