Antique Dutch Delft Polychrome Plate – Floral Decoration, Late 18th Century
A charming and decorative late 18th-century Dutch Delftware plate, beautifully hand-painted in polychrome colours with an attractive floral composition.
The centre is decorated with a lively bouquet of flowers in blue, yellow, green, red and brown, surrounded by several concentric blue lines. The outer border is embellished with a delicate scrolling branch with small red flowers and green leaves, creating a particularly attractive and balanced design.
The spontaneous, slightly naïve character of the painting is typical of Dutch Delftware of the period. The combination of strong colours and the finely painted floral decoration makes this an especially decorative example of late 18th-century Delft pottery.
The plate has the usual edge wear and small chips associated with its age and use. There is also a small firing flaw to the front, visible in the photographs. Further minor irregularities and signs of age are present, all consistent with an authentic 18th-century Delftware object.

Condition: Antique condition, with the usual edge wear and small chips, a small firing flaw to the front and minor age-related surface wear.Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced in the Netherlands, particularly in the city of Delft, during the 17th and 18th centuries. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, Delft potters developed a distinctive style characterized by a white opaque glaze decorated with cobalt blue designs, although polychrome examples were also made in the 18th century.During this period, Delft became a major center of ceramic production in Europe, exporting large quantities of wares such as plates, tiles, vases, and decorative objects. While often imitating Asian porcelain, Delftware developed its own artistic identity, featuring Dutch landscapes, floral motifs, and historical scenes.By the late 18th century, production declined due to competition from English ceramics and true porcelain, but antique Delftware remains highly valued today for its charm and historical significance.
