Antique Early Wedgwood Creamware Butter Pat Brown Trim Rockwell Collection C.1810
** Superb late 18th- Early 19th Century Wedgwood Creamware Butter Pat set of six ***
From the Renowned Dean & Mary Rockwell Collection of Early English Pottery
Up for your consideration is a remarkable, museum-quality example of early British industrial design: a rare, complete set of six genuine Georgian/Regency era Wedgwood Creamware (Queen's Ware) butter pats, dating to circa 1800. These exquisite pieces feature a bold, minimalist aesthetic that was centuries ahead of its time. The clean, stark cream/white diamond profile is beautifully framed by a sharp, hand-painted dark brown underglaze border—a highly sought-after geometric style that contrasts brilliantly with the warm undertones of the creamware body.
Important Maker's Marks & Provenance:
Impressed Factory Stamp: Clear, straight block "WEDGWOOD" mark stamped directly into the clay, confirming production at the historic Etruria factory in Staffordshire. Includes accompanying period worker/tally marks.
Celebrated Estate Label: The underside retains the iconic, original jug-shaped inventory sticker from the Dean & Mary Rockwell Collection. The Rockwells were legendary American connoisseurs whose curated estate items carry verified prestige and an ironclad guarantee of authenticity among top sale houses.
Condition Report:
Excellent, exceptional, cabinet-ready condition with NO cracks, NO repairs, and NO hairlines. One piece has a missing flea bite size fleck of missing paint- see photo. There is some expected roughness on the edges. Most 200-year-old utilitarian creamware routinely suffers from oil discoloration beneath the glaze—only one piece shows this type of stain. The rest of these pieces remain beautifully bright, clear, and well preserved. Only light, natural age-appropriate underglaze crazing is present under close inspection, confirming its genuine antique status.
