DESCRIPTION
Beautiful marbled French Jaspe pottery pitcher. Probably from the Savoy or Provence region. Swirling marbleized slip decorations in polychrome green, browns on a buff yellow ground. Glazed interior and exterior. Applied strap handle. Probably used for milk, water, cider or wine. Unglazed base. Fluid, organic decoration pattern typical of French country workshops. Coiled lines visible, especially on the interior.
CONDITION
Overall very good antique condition. No cracks or evidence of repair. Some glaze wear around the rim, and two small rim flakes near the spout (all visible in the images). A BEAUTIFULLY DRAMATIC EXAMPLE OF EARLY FRENCH RUSTIC COUNTRY JASPE WARE!
