Up for sale is a charming, 100% authentic pair of antique German all-bisque comic character figurines, dating back to the circa 1910s–1920s. This matching pair features a pouting little boy in checked overalls/rompers with his finger to his mouth, and a coordinating little girl holding a small chick.
Both figurines feature classic "googly-style" side-glancing eyes, molded details, and puckered expressions highly reminiscent of the Campbell Kids and Kewpie illustrations of the era. They feature their original cold-painted green outfits.
Both figures are explicitly marked on the reverse side with a deep, crisp "GERMANY" stamp and the incised factory mold number 2711 near the base. These specific markings are highly indicative of production by the renowned German porcelain factory Hertwig & Co. (Katzhütte, Thuringia)
Good antique condition. ***The boy has had a repair done. If you look closely at his sleeve you will see the glue. It went all the way around. It took very close inspection to find the repair.
The unglazed bisque porcelain retains a beautiful matte texture. As is typical with authentic items of this age, there is natural wear, fading, and paint loss to the green cold-painted finish, along with light surface dust/patina appropriate for their age.
