Beautiful antique German confirmation certificate / religious lithograph, dated March 20, 1910 and completed for Cora L. Hahn, born June 30, 1897. The handwritten inscription states she was confirmed in the United Evangelical Bethlehem Church in Buffalo, NY.
The printed German heading reads “Erinnerung an den Tag der Konfirmation / Denkspruch,” meaning roughly “Remembrance of the Day of Confirmation / Memorial Verse.” The central scripture text begins with Jeremiah 31:3, “I have loved you with an everlasting love…” The lower left text includes Revelation 2:10, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”
This is a richly detailed religious piece with Gothic Revival church architecture, angels, chalice, ivy vines, poppies, baptismal font, communion scene / Last Supper imagery, and ornate calligraphy. Signed in the print P. Schnorr with publisher information for Ernst Kaufmann, Lahr, Baden / New York. A wonderful piece of German-American, Lutheran / Evangelical, Buffalo NY, and early 20th century religious history.
The piece is framed in an antique dark faux-grain / wood-tone frame with a narrow gilt inner edge. Overall it has a strong Victorian / Edwardian devotional look and would display beautifully in a religious collection, German heritage display, genealogy wall, church office, prayer room, or antique salon wall.
Condition is antique and as shown. There is expected age toning, scattered spotting, small marks, wear to the frame, minor finish loss, and general signs of age.
