This authentic 1920s cast iron floral doorstop was manufactured by the Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Designated as Hubley mold pattern #221, the piece depicts a full arrangement of nasturtium blossoms and rounded lily-pad leaves cascading out of a vertically striped flower pot.
The doorstop features solid two-sided cast construction with a fully finished, openwork relief front and a classic hollowed reverse shell bearing the incised mold number 221 centered on the back. The piece retains its original cold-painted finish, displaying rich cadmium red, warm yellow, and orange-toned petals set against deep green foliage and a contrasting black and tan/cream striped urn.

Expected age-appropriate paint micro-chipping and honest edge wear along high points, petals, and base. Structural: Iron casting is solid and completely free of cracks, chips, welds, or structural repairs. The base rim rests flat and stable.
Authenticity Assessment: This piece exhibits all key markers of an authentic 1920s Hubley casting. The mold number 221 on the reverse is crisp, properly proportioned, and integrated directly into the casting rather than surface-stamped onto raw iron post-production. The casting seams around the outer perimeter and openwork pierced cutouts are ground smooth with crisp detail work across the leaf veins and flower centers. The paint application displays distinct original factory characteristics: multi-layer hand-painted cold enamel over smooth iron, showing genuine age-related micro-crazing and edge paint loss over smooth oxidized iron rather than artificial rusting, heavy pitted iron, or modern spray/acrylic paint layers common on modern reproductions.
