Antique 18th century North Indian sword Talwar Tulwar Islamic Mughal India
DETAILS:
Sturdy very heavy and very sharp single-edged, with a false edge – Yelmen, blade is hand-forged of characteristic Indian welded mechanical Damascus steel with a watered pattern.
The steel hilt of typical North Indian tulwar, of Aurangzebi style is comprised of a cross-guard formed with a faceted knuckle bow is terminating at the top in the form of a lotus bud. a pair of quillons with swollen terminals and long shaped langets, baluster grip with disk shaped pommel (katori), with a domed top in the form of flower (phool) surmounted by the bud - shaped finial pierced in the middle with a small hole to thread a silk suspension string through, which wrapped around the wrist to prevent loss in combat.
MEASUREMENTS:
Overall length: 84.3 cm (33.19 inches).
Length of the blade: 72 cm (28.45 inches).
Width of the blade at the ricasso: 3.5 cm (1.69 inches).
Thickness of the spine: 6 mm.
CONDITION: Age and usage are showing, steel blade has visible forging marks and the hilt with visible welding marks.
