Early Staffordshire transferware example by the Clews factory, highly collected for its short production period (c.1818–1834).Antique blue dinner plate by James and Ralph Clews of Staffordshire, England. Shows a walking man and a woman riding on a donkey, leaving classical ruins in the background. Impressed verso with \"CLEWSWARRANTEDSTAFFORDSHIRE,\" and with a blue Clews logo reading \"Stone China.\" Tripod drying marks plainly visible.
The Clews Brothers were active in Staffordshire from about 1818 to 1834.
CONDITION
Overall excellent. No chips, repairs, crazing or cracks evident. Rich bright blue color (all visible in the images). A FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY BLUE TRANSFERWARE ENGLISH DINNER PLATE IN GREAT CONDITION!
