Antique Japanese Fujii Damascene Footed Cigarette / Trinket Box – Mt. Fuji Mark – Circa 1930s
Beautiful early 20th-century Japanese decorative metal box featuring intricate gold-tone damascene-style decoration with traditional folding fans, flowers, maple leaves, landscapes, birds and foliage against a dark blackened ground.
The underside bears a distinctive Mount Fuji-style maker’s mark, associated with Fujii Damascene Co. of Japan, a firm known for finely decorated damascene cigarette cases and decorative metalwork during the early 20th century.
The box is raised on four elegant decorated feet and has a removable fitted lid with a plain metal interior. The unusual footed form and extensive decoration make this a particularly attractive example.
