Beautiful antique/vintage Japanese men’s formal black haori featuring five traditional family crests (kamon) and an exceptional pictorial haura hidden lining.
The understated black exterior opens to reveal an elaborate Japanese textile artwork depicting an elderly Buddhist/Rakan-style sage or Arhat seated among bamboo, accompanied by additional figures. The scene is rendered in muted gold, green, blue, white and brown tones and is an especially striking example of the decorative hidden linings traditionally used in Japanese men’s haori.
A small artist/seal-style mark is visible near the edge of the pictorial scene. Part of the mark is concealed beneath the original lining construction, so no specific artist attribution is being made.
The garment features five kamon/family crests, representing the formal five-crest arrangement traditionally used on Japanese men’s formal garments.
