Antique Maple Leaf Brand Pure Spices Cream Tartar tin, packed for the Ryley-Wilson Grocer Co., Kansas City, U.S.A. Wonderful early grocery advertising piece featuring a deep blue tin with its original colorful paper label depicting autumn maple leaves.
This appears to be a particularly uncommon Maple Leaf Brand spice tin. Ryley-Wilson Grocer Co. was an early Kansas City wholesale grocery company, and surviving period material documents the company’s Maple Leaf Brand advertising during the 1920s.
The original paper label remains substantially intact and displays nicely, with Maple Leaf Brand, Pure Spices, Ryley-Wilson Grocer Co., Kansas City U.S.A. and Cream Tartar still visible. The top retains its original rotating/shaker-style spice dispenser.
Condition is consistent with substantial age. The paper label shows fading, discoloration, staining, edge wear and areas of paper loss. The blue-painted tin has scratches, scuffs, spots of paint loss and general surface wear. The metal top and bottom show oxidation, discoloration and age-related wear. Please examine all photos closely, as they are an important part of the condition description.
A very difficult-to-find early Kansas City grocery and spice advertising piece, especially appealing for collectors of antique spice tins, country-store advertising, early food packaging and Kansas City memorabilia.
