Spectacular antique Hand Painted Nippon porcelain tea service bearing the desirable green M-in-wreath Morimura Brothers mark.
This is an exceptionally decorative five-piece service consisting of a lidded teapot, two teacups and two matching saucers.
What makes this set especially impressive is the sheer amount of decorative work.
Virtually every visible exterior surface has been incorporated into the design. The pieces feature individually hand-painted scenic landscape panels showing trees, water, distant buildings and countryside views. The scenes appear on multiple sides rather than being limited to a single central decoration.
Surrounding the paintings is an extraordinary amount of ornamental detail, including:
• Rich emerald-green ground
• Extensive hand-applied gold decoration
• Raised gilt and beaded detailing
• Intricate scrolling gold borders
• Greek-key style decoration
• White and gold medallions
• Elaborately decorated handles
• Coordinated decoration on the lid and spout
• Hand-painted landscape scenes throughout
The lidded teapot is the centerpiece of the service, with substantial scenic paintings on opposite sides, a dramatic gold handle, long green spout, raised gilt decoration and an elaborately patterned fitted lid.
The two cups are equally detailed, with landscape paintings incorporated into their exterior decoration rather than simply repeating a transfer pattern. The matching saucers continue the same green, gilt and scenic design.
The amount of individual handwork represented in this relatively small service is remarkable. This is as much a piece of decorative Japanese art porcelain as it is a tea service.
The underside carries the green Hand Painted Nippon M-in-wreath mark, associated with Morimura Brothers. Comparable M-in-wreath scenic Nippon pieces are generally attributed to the early 20th-century export period, approximately 1911–1921.
An outstanding display set for a collector of Nippon, Morimura Brothers, early Noritake, Japanese art porcelain or elaborate hand-painted antique china.

CONDITION
Very attractive antique condition with expected evidence of age and previous use.
The hand-painted landscape scenes remain vivid and detailed, and the extensive green and gold decoration presents beautifully.
There is age-related wear to portions of the gilt decoration, particularly along exposed edges, rims and areas that naturally receive handling.
Minor surface marks, small manufacturing irregularities and signs of age may be present.
No major damage is apparent in the photographs provided.
Because this is antique porcelain more than a century old, please closely examine all photographs of the rims, handles, spout, lid, cups, saucers and decoration. The photographs are an important part of the condition description.
