Antique Northwood carnival glass oval dish in the Poppy pattern, in deep amethyst from the early 1900s. Raised poppy blossoms, buds and leaves fill the stippled center, framed by a beaded oval border and swirling acanthus scrolls. The ruffled, crimped rim rises around the sides, and the iridescence is outstanding, with electric blue, violet, gold and green flashing across the surface as the light moves. Often called the Poppy pickle dish, this shape is a favorite with carnival glass collectors. A beautiful piece for display in a china cabinet or on a windowsill, or for serving olives, pickles, candy or small treats. Unmarked, as many Northwood pieces are.
CONDITION: Excellent, with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs.
