Antique Porcelain German Hand Painted w/Silver Lid Beer Stein Meissen c.1750
Beautiful nicely decorated porcelain beer stein made by the Meissen factory - the first European porcelain production plant that started in 1706.
Overall - a fantastically decorated piece - a one-of-a-kind treasure. It\'s a very elegant Bierkrug with a cylindrical body and a solid silver lid.
Marvelous hand-painted very detailed floral decorations with elaborately depicted roses, tulips, and other flowers in typical Meissen style.
The Meissen factory at the time for technical reasons left the base unglazed in early models. However, the unglazed surface weakens the blue, so that early models often have no or only an indistinctly visible mark. Still, we can see that the mark shows straight, not curved swords that were used from 1722 to 1762.
The lid is made of silver mainly constructed of silver coins from the late 1600s - early 1700. The central medallion coin is 1/3 Thalerwith the front lettering \"IOHAN. GEORG. COM. IN. MANSFELT. NOB: 1/3\" (Iohannus Georgius Comes In Mansfeld Nobilis). The coin\'s reverse reads: \"DOM. IN. H. S. ET. S. FORTITER. ET. CONSTANTER\" (Dominus In Heldrungen Seeburg Et Schraplau Fortiter Et Constanter). This is the 1/3 thaler coin for the county of Mansfeld-Eisleben mint for Count Johann Georg III (1640-1710). The coin was minted in 1672 by mint master AB K (Anton Bernhard Koburger, Mint Master, Eisleben (1667-1680)). The sides of the lid are made of smaller denominations coins.
Please note - these are real coins, not substitutes or copies. Silver coins at the time were quite thin.
The stein has two small flakes in the bottom rim (see pics), otherwise it is in excellent condition.
It stays 5.5\" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.4L capacity.
Reference#: Condition: two small flakes on bottom, otherwise excellent Year: c.1750s Country: Germany Maker: Meissen Height: 5.5 in Materials: Porcelain
