Antique R. Wallace Machinist Union Swivel Badge In Memoriam Reversible Lodge Pin For Sale

This is a rare and highly specialized piece of late 19th-century labor and fraternal history. Manufactured by R. Wallace & Sons (R.W.& S.), this Reversible Swivel Badge was designed for members of a Machinist Union or Fraternal Guild. It served a dual purpose: celebrating the trade during life and honoring members in death.

The "Double Feature" Mechanism

• Machinist Side: Features high-relief engravings of the machinist’s trade, including crossed calipers and a micrometer. This side was displayed during regular meetings, labor parades, and social events.

• Mourning Side: The central medallion swivels 180 degrees to reveal a somber "In Memoriam" face. This side was displayed during funeral services or lodge-wide periods of mourning for a deceased member.

• The Frame: The medallion is housed in a decorative Victorian frame with an integrated swivel axis, allowing the wearer to flip the center without removing the badge.

• Hallmark: Clearly stamped with the R. Wallace & Sons stag head logo and R.W.& S. on the reverse.
