Exceptional antique Rosenthal porcelain Pierrot figurine designed by Dorothea Charol, dating to the Art Deco period of the 1920s.
Standing an impressive 13.5 inches tall, this large-scale figure depicts an elegantly elongated Pierrot performer in a dramatic pose, dressed in a fitted jacket with flared peplum, voluminous trousers, elaborate ruffled collar and pointed shoes. The expressive hand gestures and stylized proportions beautifully capture the theatrical Art Deco aesthetic of the period.
Executed entirely in glossy white porcelain, the monochromatic finish emphasizes the sculptural quality and intricate modeling while giving this approximately century-old piece a remarkably modern appearance.
The underside bears the green Rosenthal Bavaria crown-and-roses factory mark with D.R.P.a. The base is also impressed “D. CHAROL” for noted sculptor and designer Dorothea Charol.
