Antique Royal Worcester porcelain teapot in the blush ivory palette, made in England.
The body is a soft ivory ground shading toward blush, hand decorated with a sweeping scrolled vine of stylized flowers in yellow, pink, purple, red, and blue with sage and olive foliage. Raised gilt dotting outlines the stems and petals, a hallmark of Worcester\'s better hand-finished work. Decoration continues over the shoulder and across the domed lid.
Bamboo-form handle and finial in coral orange with gold, and a long gold spout. The combination of the coral bamboo mounts against the blush ground is characteristic of Worcester\'s aesthetic movement period output.
Backstamped in puce with the crowned circle mark, 51 at the center, Royal Worcester England, with factory dating dots and a painted shape mark. Blush ivory production ran roughly from the 1890s into the 1910s.
Measures approximately 7 inches from spout tip to handle and 4 1/2 inches tall to the top of the finial. Weighs 1 lb.
Royal Worcester blush ivory is a named, tracked category with its own collector base, separate from general English teaware. This is a small individual-size pot, the most displayable size in the category.
CONDITION
Pre-owned antique, very good condition for age. No chips, cracks, or repairs visible. No crazing. Hand-painted decoration is bright and complete with no fading or flaking. Raised gilt dotting is intact.
Gold on the spout and on the bamboo handle and finial shows wear and thinning, most visible on the high points of the handle and along the spout, shown clearly in the photos. Light scattered surface specking on the underside near the backstamp, consistent with age. Lid seats properly. Spout is clear and undamaged at the tip.
