An exceptionally atmospheric and evocative late Victorian cabinet card capturing a compelling intersection of Victorian mourning customs and historical medical curiosity.
Victorian Mourning Regalia: The elderly subject is clad in complete Victorian mourning dress, featuring a heavy, textured dark mantle/cape (likely silk, crepe, or velvet) with ruched detailing, high collar, and dark garments indicative of deep mourning. Her solemn, haunting gaze directly engages the lens.
Antique Invalid Carriage: She is seated outdoors before a brick façade with louvered shutters in an authentic Victorian wheeled invalid carriage (Bath chair / wicker perambulator), complete with a tufted button-back cushioned interior, curved front panelling, and delicate wire wheels.
Measurements: 10.5 cm x 17 cm
Authentic antique condition with gentle toning and natural sepia aging consistent with late 19th-century mounted photographs.
Cardboard mount is structurally intact with clean edges and corners (please inspect high-resolution photos for minor corner bumping or surface foxing).
Sharp focal clarity on the subject’s face, clothing texture, and carriage upholstery.
