Antique "Staffordshire" fairing trinket boxes are small 19th-century porcelain keepsakes that were actually manufactured in Germany rather than England.
During the mid-Victorian era (roughly from the 1840s and 1850s through 1914), small porcelain items became wildly popular across Great Britain. Known as "fairings," these pieces were won as prizes at annual county fairs and holiday seaside resorts, or purchased as cheap souvenirs. Many featured hinged or removable lids and served as functional trinket boxes, match holders, or pin boxes.
