This is a portrait miniature, likely hand-painted over a photograph, encased in a brass frame with a dark velvet or felt backing. The miniature features an image of a woman, possibly from the late 19th or early 20th century. The woman appears to be wearing a veil, which could indicate that this is either a wedding or mourning portrait.

Such miniatures were often created as keepsakes or personal mementos, particularly before the widespread availability of colour photography. The hand-painting technique added depth and colour to photographs, making them more lifelike. The glass covering the portrait is slightly curved, which is typical of miniatures from this period.

This item is a nice example of a portrait miniature, reflecting the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the era. The brass frame and curved glass contribute to its traditional aesthetic. This miniature was likely used as a personal memento, possibly commemorating a significant life event such as a wedding or a period of mourning.
