Featured is a fine example of an antique pocket compass surveying compass made by well known scientific instruments maker W.&L.E Gurley from Troy New York in the late 1800's. The compass has an approx. 4 1/2 inch silvered face with a 3 1/2 inch compass needle, two green level bubbles and two folding sights. The body of the compass is in very good condition. The original mahogany is very good condition. It does have a crack, near edge, in lower right hand corner, as shown in last picture. Crack runs with grain. I'm sure it may be repaired, but will leave that up to new owner. The staff mounting has some wear. Compass face has 4 1/2 inches diameter and the wooden case is 7 x 6 x 1 1/2 inches. Date of July 10, 1888 had been annotated in red ink in lower right hand corner of label.
