Antique W.R. Humphreys & Co. Sheffield COMET Pocket Knife – Rare Pictorial Tang For Sale

Antique English single-blade pocket knife made by W.R. Humphreys & Co. of Sheffield, England. Knife measures just over 3 1/2 inches closed.The standout feature is the early COMET pictorial tang trademark, featuring a shooting star/comet with trailing rays and lettering. This is a documented W.R. Humphreys trademark and is much less commonly encountered than the firm's later RADIANT markings.Features black handle scales, inset metal shield, rounded bolsters, brass liners, long nail pull, and carbon-steel blade. Construction and trademark are consistent with a late 19th to early 20th century Sheffield knife, approximately c. 1890-1910.Blade is tight.Condition is honest antique used condition with age-related patina, oxidation/pitting, scratches, and evidence of past sharpening. The blade has lost some of its original profile from use, but the important COMET tang trademark remains clearly identifiable.
