Beautiful antique Art Nouveau jewelry or trinket casket manufactured by Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut, dating to the early 20th century.
The footed cast-metal casket features an elaborate Art Nouveau floral design with raised roses, pierced floral decoration, sweeping botanical scrollwork and a hinged lid.
The underside retains its wonderful original “Parisian Art Silver – Reg. Applied For” paper label and is cast with the W-B Mfg. Co. maker’s mark and pattern/model number 395.
The casket currently has a gold-colored finish. Areas of wear, particularly along the feet and edges, reveal a silver-colored metallic surface beneath. Based on the surviving Parisian Art Silver label and Weidlich Brothers’ production of silver-plated decorative wares, the piece appears to have originally had a silver-colored/silver-plated finish and was subsequently given the gold-colored surface. The finish has not been removed or altered by us.
