Here is an unusual 1930s Art Deco hand-painted pottery vase, attributed to English pottery company Wadeheath, based on a shape used by Roseville Pottery in their 1928 Futura line. This listing is for the Wadeheath vase only. I have included a pic with the Roseville version, for comparison only.
This vase is hand-painted in vibrant colors over a gloss cream base glaze, with surface silvering highlights on some edges.
Its shape seems to be clearly derived from Roseville Pottery's Futura "Arches" 411-14" vase, in slightly smaller dimensions, possibly indicating that an actual Roseville piece was used to create a new mold, which would produce a slightly smaller copy, approximately 90% of the original. This Wadeheath version does not have the raised diagonal bar highlights that the Roseville has on alternating facets mid-body.
Roseville Futura vs. Wadeheath dimensions:Height: 14" 13"Width: 5.5" Just over 5"Base Ring: 4.0" Just over 3.5"Rim Side: 2.5" 2.25"Weight: 2 lbs, 12 oz. 1 lb, 14 oz.
Unmarked, except for an underlined "2" in silver on the underside. I found three other examples with this color scheme on the internet, all described as 1930s Wadeheath.
Wadeheath (Wade, Heath & Co.) was a prominent name in 20th-century British pottery, known for its extensive range of ornamental and novelty ceramics, with its most famous output aligning with the playful and accessible side of the Art Deco movement.
Condition: Some rubbing loss to the surface silvering. Otherwise, mint, with no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. As made, the hand-painted areas are not very precise, with some bleeding on the blue edges, and visible brush strokes and a skipped area on the green surfaces.
