An Original Civil War Letter from David Knowles of Wayland, Michigan who enlisted who enlisted in Company H, 19th Wisconsin Infantry along with his Brother Jonathan to their younger brother John dated June 2, , 1864 (David is now with the VRC at at Hampton Hospital, Virginia). He was glad to receive John\'s letter, he reports he is well at present, asks of news of the boys in his company, and if any of our regiment who was wounded was in this hospital. He received a letter from Brother Jonathan, now a guard at the 18th Corp Hospital, who asks for news of the Family. David asks for pictures of John and he girls to write \"to me a Poor Soldier away from home and friends, and finishes with Jonathan\'s address \" Co H, 19th Regt Wis Vol. 18th Army Corps near City Point, Va\". Comes with service info.- David served 3 years in the 19th, and then with the Veteran Reserve Corps in March, 1864, serving to the End of the War. Brother Jonathan served with him but was wounded and captured at Fair Oaks, Va, and died a POW at Richmond, December, 1864. After the War David and John returned to Michigan\'; David was active in the GAR at Wayland.. Brother John, the recipient of the letter joined up with the 28th Michigan September, 1864 and saw action in the North Carolina Campaigns incl the Battles of Kinston and Wise\'s Fork. 4pp ink 8 x 5\" with folds, minor edge wear, age stains, ,Overall VG.
