This is an sale... for what I believe is a genuine Civil War period or post Indian War U.S. Cavalry leather Baldric Sword hanger BELT with embossed Inspector mark " A.D. Laidley U.S. Ord. Dept. U.S. Inspector". Inspectors name was Almon D. Laidley a sub-inspector during the Civil War. This belt has had several new field holes added to accommodate size adjustments on the belt and cross strap. Very heavy brass hardware, buttons and hooks. Retains both swivel hooks on the sword straps.BUCKLE:
Rectangular Brass Buckle 3 1/8" X 2 1/8" STAMPED not cast . Has a large STAR on the front with scroll work as a border. Often used by the Confederate army by Texas, Mississippi or Louisiana Cavalry. NO maker stamps. . The tang part sewn onto the belt, looks cast and has a number/letter stamped onto it "B4". *** I do NOT KNOW if this has been added or replaced on the belt or if it is original or repro. You are buying an "as is" item You must make the decision before winning the sale. The belt retains a satin black finish lightly worn the sword straps are a dark brown with faint black dye visible. Cross strap is same condition as the belt. *** does NOT have any other mfg stamps like E. Gaylord. So, unknown mfg. In all, a mystery period BELT and Buckle combo that is old but undetermined. YOU are purchasing this as is no returns (not a retail store) . If you need a great OLD rig, this might be your answer. Still wearable (but why take a chance of damaging it) .
