Postcard Dating Guide
Earliest postmark indicates the absolute latest year a postcard was made.
Design Eras (via Smithsonian Institute):
- Divided Back Period: 1907-1915 - picture on front, one half of back dedicated to address only and one half for private message.
- White Border Period: 1915-1930 - picture on front surrounded by a white border, divided back
- Linen Period: 1930-1945 - material has a linen like texture on front with usually a divided back, linen continued into the 1950s
- Photochrome Period: 1945-Present - typical postcards of today with color, glossy fronts with a smooth feel that resemble photographs
Serial Numbers
