💀 A Classic Pokémon from EX Team Rocket Returns
Released in November 2004, EX Team Rocket Returns brought the infamous criminal organisation back to the Pokémon Trading Card Game, introducing collectors to a darker and more mysterious expansion inspired by the original Team Rocket set.
The expansion featured an extraordinary selection of Pokémon, including powerful Dark Pokémon, Pokémon-ex cards, and the memorable Pokémon ☆ Gold Star mechanic.
Among its charming original-generation Pokémon is Cubone, the Lonely Pokémon, renowned for its emotional backstory and distinctive skull helmet.
Numbered 51/109, this card features Cubone alongside another member of its species, surrounded by an intricate background filled with colourful symbols and patterns.
Illustrated by Kouki Saitou, the artwork captures Cubone\'s unmistakable appearance while presenting a more playful interpretation of a Pokémon traditionally associated with loneliness and loss.
The combination of expressive character design and detailed surroundings makes this an especially appealing illustration from the EX era.
✨ The Iconic EX Team Rocket Returns Stamped Reverse Holo
What makes this particular example especially desirable is its distinctive EX Team Rocket Returns Reverse Holo treatment.
Unlike standard non-holographic examples, reverse holographic cards from this expansion feature a reflective finish and the prominent EX Team Rocket Returns logo stamped across the illustration.
This distinctive presentation represents one of the defining visual characteristics of Pokémon\'s early EX-era reverse holographic cards.
The card showcases several noteworthy features:
EX Team Rocket Returns Set Stamp: The expansion\'s iconic logo appears prominently within the lower-right portion of the illustration.
Reverse Holographic Finish: A shimmering surface enhances the artwork with reflective patterns and colourful highlights.
Classic EX-Era Design: The familiar yellow borders and distinctive early-2000s Pokémon card layout capture the nostalgia of the Nintendo era.
Kouki Saitou Artwork: A charming illustration featuring two Cubone against an intricate, colourful background.
Original Kanto Pokémon: Cubone remains one of the most recognisable first-generation Pokémon, celebrated for its unique design and memorable story.
Set-stamped reverse holographic cards from the EX era possess a distinctive aesthetic that separates them from conventional holographic releases.
