\"The Slender One\" – Exceptional Partial Oviraptorid Dinosaur Egg (Elongatoolithus elongatus) from China
Up for sale/purchase is a fascinating and displayable nearly complete dinosaur egg specimen from the famous Cretaceous red beds of the Ganzhou Basin, Jiangxi Province, China. Known colloquially among collectors as \"The Slender One,\" this specimen preserves patches of authentic, finely textured eggshell embedded within its original reddish matrix.
Specimen Details:
Taxonomy: Elongatoolithus elongatus (Zhao Zikui, 1975)
Family: Elongatoolithidae
Geological Formation: Nanxiong Formation
Age: Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian, approx. 70–66.7 Million Years Ago)
Dimensions: Approximately 7 cm x 4.5 cm (nearly complete; fragment/section)
Preservation: Displays characteristic \"pencil-shaped\" elongated curvature with portions of the original eggshell intact, showcasing the fine, dispersed node/tubercle texture typical of this oospecies.
Associated Dinosaur – Banji long:
Oospecies of the family Elongatoolithidae in the Ganzhou Basin are widely attributed to oviraptorid dinosaurs. This specimen is most likely associated with Banji long (meaning \"striped crest dragon\" in Chinese)—a small, lightly built, bipedal omnivore roughly the size of a modern turkey or small emu. Famous for its extreme \"mohawk\" crest and exceptionally long nasal opening, Banji was an agile speedster of the Late Cretaceous landscape. Because of its small, slender build, its eggs were noticeably thinner, narrower, and more pencil-shaped compared to those of its larger oviraptorid cousins.
