Document Signed by the Minister of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, 1933 — Royal Decree — Radenko Stanković
This is an official royal decree issued in 1933, concerning the promotion of teacher Petrović Lj. Dragoljub from Kuršumlija.
Documents of this type, issued during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, typically featured at the top the formal royal heading:
WE
ALEXANDER I
BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE
KING OF YUGOSLAVIA
Although the decree formally bears the printed signature “Aleksandar s.r.” (as all royal decrees did), it is almost certain that such documents did not pass through the hands of King Alexander personally — the printed signature served as a formal requirement.
What makes this document especially interesting is that it was personally signed by the Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Dr. Radenko Stanković.
A close look at the handwriting on the form indicates that the minister most likely filled in the rest of the handwritten content as well, making this an exceptionally rare example of a decree executed entirely by a high-ranking government official.
In the lower right corner, there is an additional faint stamp and a secondary signature, likely from an office clerk serving as internal confirmation, archivist marking, or registration notation before the document was handed over to its recipient.
About Minister Radenko Stanković
Buyers who wish to learn more about Dr. Stanković can refer to sources such as Wikipedia, but several notable points include:
Founder of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade
One of the three royal regents of the underage King Peter II Karađorđević (together with Prince Paul and Ivo Perović)
Introduced the first ECG machine in Serbia
Served as the personal physician of King Alexander I starting from 1929
Built the famous Stanković Castle in Čortanovci, today a well-known historical landmark
Condition
The document shows a larger tear in the upper right corner and a few smaller tears elsewhere. However, when kept inside protective archival sleeves (as shown), the damage is far less visually noticeable.
Despite this flaw, the document remains highly valuable due to:
Its issuing authority (Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia)
The clear official seal
The royal coat of arms at the top
The original signature and handwriting of a historically important minister
Its overall age and rarity
This is a classic example of how royal decrees looked during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, complete with the king’s name at the top.
The document is stored in two reinforced crystal-clear archival sleeves (two, because the document is slightly longer than modern A4 format, which was typical at the time).
