• Size: The exact size varies depending on the margin, and the size definitely varies a bit from day-to-day; however, the sizes are approximately as follows:
• The full pages are approximately 38.1 x 52.7 cm including margins, or about 15 x 20.7 inches.
• Note: We consider the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to have some of the mostly beautifully printed comics from this time period. At least within our collection. Therefore, this is a beautiful set of Flash Gordon comics with really nice comics on the reverse side as well. The reverse side contains an assortment of other comic titles, including:
  • 25 - Tailspin Tommy (normally with Four Aces and the Flying Club)
  • 9 Chief Wahoo
  • 7 Private Lives

Condition

Here are some general condition notes for this set of comics:

• There might be a few small tears around the edges in the margins (larger tears are mentioned below). In general, there are very few tears on the edges of this set.
• These comics are old and tanned, but can be handled with ease. Some dates, and/or edges, might be more tanned than others.
  • In general, a good portion of this set looks pretty good, but some are definitely more tanned. The paper quality is generally very nice.
• Condition notes are predominately focused on the comics on the front side (comic featured for the sale). In general, I would expect something similar on the reverse side.
• The color register is sometimes off at least a bit, but the printing generally pretty really good with these comics (nice color).
  • Examine the photos to see how the comics look. These still look great despite our attention to detail on taking notes. In general, we rate the color register issues in the following (with increasing severity). This is just a quick assessment as we go through the set. As mentioned above, even though we could find little things to nit-pick, this is a very nice looking set.
    • Color register off a tiny bit - 17 dates

• Some dates have some ink transfer. We provided some individual date notes, but some really like ink transfer can generally be found on each date if you look carefully. It does not look bad on this set.
  • Ink bleed-through, or visibility of some printing from the reverse side is more common. We did not take additional specific notes on this condition (see photos).
  • Ink transfer is mostly commonly observed along the left or right side, which probably relates to the printing press rollers, and near the centerfold lines. We would consider it to all be light (see photos). We did not take notes on every date.
• The left margin is often a bit narrow and not always trimmed cleanly (only when it was too close for a neat trimming). The margin left is generally reasonable though.

We also made some notes of some date specific issues (we tried to avoid making too many notes, and instead preferred to go the generalized condition notes above). This should serve as a guide to the condition of the set, it is possible that we have not caught everything:

1-29 There are a few fine crease lines down the right side, one of them goes most of the way down the entire right side (see photos). It may not be visible in the photo from the front side that well, but should be at least somewhat visible on the photo on the reverse side. There\'s at least one small tear at this line too, as the paper\'s been weakened. 6-11 It appears the comic was printed over a very, very fine wrinkle in the paper across the entire right side. It is barely noticeable in most cases (see photo). 6-18 The left margin is narrow and not trimmed cleanly (see photos). Part of it\'s missing right up to the edge of the comic. 6-25 The left margin is very narrow (see photos). 7-16 The left margin is narrow and there is a small tear in the left margin, right up to the edge of the comic.
