HISTORY:Friedrich WilhelmNietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher, poet, musician, and philologistwhose work has had a profound influence on contemporary world thought andWestern culture.Nietzsche wrote on topics as diverse as art, philology, music, history, religion, science, or tragedy. He made a critique of Westernculture, religion and philosophy through the genealogy of the concepts thatintegrate them, based on the analysis of moral attitudes (positive andnegative) towards life. The influence exercised on Nietzsche by the Germanphilosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, whom he considered his teacher, is highlyremarkable, although it is true that he did not dogmatically follow the ideasof the latter, and in many aspects he distanced himself from his thought, evengoing so far as to make a radical critique of his philosophical ideas. He pondered the consequences of the triumph ofEnlightenment secularism, expressed in his remark \"God is dead,\" in away that determined the agenda of many of the most celebrated intellectualsafter his death. Although there are those who maintain that the definingcharacteristic of Nietzsche is not so much the subject matter that he dealtwith as the style and subtlety with which he did so, he was an author whointroduced, like no other, a worldview that has reorganized the thought of the20th century. in authors such as Martin Heidegger, Michel Foucault, JacquesDerrida, Gilles Deleuze, Georges Bataille, Gianni Vattimo or Michel Onfray, among others. Nietzsche received wide recognition during the secondhalf of the 20th century as a significant figure in contemporary philosophy. His influence was particularly noticeable on existentialist, critical, phenomenological, poststructuralist, and postmodern philosophers, and on the sociologyof Max Weber. He is considered one of the three \"masters ofsuspicion\" (according to Paul Ricoeur\'s well-known expression), along withKarl Marx and Sigmund Freud.
