WILLARD PARSONS (1842-1907) was the founder of the Tribune Fresh Air Fund, which sent poor children to the country for a one- or two-week stay during the summer. It later became simply known as The Fresh Air Fund and continued operations long after the Tribune newspaper ceased to exist. Parsons was also a minister of a small rural Presbyterian Church in Sherman, PA. He left the ministry to build the fund during the next 30 years. Offering a one-page, 5 ½ x 8 ½ ALS on New York Tribune stationary, April 1, 1896, to an unnamed recipient: “My dear Sir, If you will call on me at my 558 Fifth Ave. on Friday evening next, before 7:30, I shall be glad to talk with you about a possible position for the summer.
