Dyke (1852–1933) was an American short-story writer, poet, and essayist known for The Story of the Other Wise Man (1896), The First Christmas Tree (1897), The Ruling Passion (1901), The Blue Flower (1902), The Unknown Quantity (1912), The Valley of Vision (1919), The Golden Key (1926), and Poems (1920). He graduated from the college and seminary at Princeton University and later became an English professor at Princeton, a Presbyterian minister, and President Woodrow Wilson’s U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Dyke officiated the funeral of Mark Twain at the Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City on April 23, 1910.
