Andrew Jackson Jordan, born in New Windsor, MD around 1845,gets a lengthy entry in Goins and Levine; and is also a well-known Sheffield producer of handmade pocket knives. Operating out of the US, he established his factory in Sheffield around 1885 and obtained several English trademarks. This is a particularly nice example of a Barlow, probably from the first quarter of the 20thCentury with a clip blade that does appear to have been polished.Measures approximately 2 13/16 inches long, overall, closed. Clip blade measures approximately 1 ¾ inches long, edge only. Obverse tang stamped “A.J. Jordan Sheffield England”.Not certain whether the scales are some kind of jigged bone or second cut stag – see photos. Scales secured by three pins. Long steel bolsters. Steel liners. Provided in a microfiber drawstring pouch.
Strong snap to blade and good half stop. Blade clean and bright, however does appear to have been polished at some point. Scales good with no chips or cracks. Reverse bolster a little dulled. Tang stamp clear. Nice, rare example with Sheffield cross-over appeal.
