Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, sculpted and produced by Yuji Sakai, is released as a fully painted finished product with an overall height of approximately 12.6 inches (320 mm).

First released as a garage kit during the theatrical run of the 1996 Daiei (now KADOKAWA) film Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, the 7.9-inch (200 mm) soft vinyl kit Gamera 1996, sculpted by Yuji Sakai, left a strong impression on fans and continues to be highly regarded today.

At the time, this original sculpt was created based on Yuji Sakai’s own extensive on-site research at the filming location, faithfully reproducing even the finest details of the actual suit used in the movie.

After 29 years, aiming for even greater perfection, this piece has been revived as a fully painted finished product under the complete supervision of Yuji Sakai, with elite members of the Kaiyodo sculpting team incorporating newly available reference materials. With its refined and enhanced details, this product can be considered a new sculpt by Yuji Sakai that could only be realized today.

The original sculpt was digitized using the latest 3D scanning technology, namely CT scanning, and enlarged from the original size of 7.48 inches (190 mm) to 12.6 inches (320 mm). Molds were created directly from 3D printer outputs through firing, and production was carried out exclusively using original molds without employing duplicated mass-production molds. This approach aimed to reproduce the character of the original sculpt as faithfully as possible, while minimizing deformation and shrinkage commonly seen in soft vinyl products made using conventional lost-wax methods.

Of course, the paintwork was also fully supervised by Yuji Sakai. Rather than following a conventional assembly-line painting process, mass production was achieved with a quality that resembles hand-finished work by skilled artisans. Instead of the mechanical finish seen in previous mass-produced items, you can enjoy a finish that feels like a one-of-a-kind piece.
