Dating to circa 1910, this wonderfully evocative antique cigar box is a charming example of early 20th-century folk art craftsmanship. The warm wood exterior has developed a rich, naturally aged patina, giving the piece the character and authenticity that only comes with more than a century of use. The lid is especially appealing, decorated with a hand-painted cigar and match surrounded by a colorful patterned border that adds a playful decorative touch to its otherwise masculine form.The box measures approximately 9.25 inches wide, 6.25 inches deep, and 4.5 inches high. Lifting the lid reveals a cork-lined interior, originally intended to help provide a protective environment for storing cigars. Today, the box makes a distinctive decorative piece for a gentleman’s study, library, bar, or office and could easily be repurposed for storing watches, cufflinks, correspondence, or other small treasures. Its visible wear, surface variation, and aged finish are all part of its wonderful antique character and reinforce its folk-art appeal. Good antique condition with surface wear and signs of use. There is a small piece of border missing on back right bottom corner.
