Standing 8 and a half inches tall, the entiresculpture was carved from a single piece of Cottonwood root, by Elgean Joshevama,a carver of transcendent technical skill. From the bottom of the base to the topof his head(even the flowing warbonnet!), the only pieces that was added after carving was the yucca whip and the feathers. Except for that,EVERYTHING is a single piece of carved Cottonwood root. This is a tourde force of technical achievement, beyond the ability of all but a few of thefinest Hopi carvers.
