This very high-quality Japanese natural whetstone comes from the Nakayama mine and is hard and very fine grained. It produces a yellowish kiita color when slurried.
It is a small narrow koppa that can be hand held or placed on a platform for honing small knives, straight razors, & kamisoris. Alternatively it can also be used as a tomo nagura to create a finishing slurry on a larger stone. The hardness on these little koppa stones are estimated to be around 4.2 - 4.6.
Just keep in mind if you purchase it for honing do to its narrow size it will require a honing method like an X stroke to cover the entire edge. Except for the rubbing surface the stone has been clear lacquer sealed for added protection.
